          Dear Editor

I am writing to you to tell you about my problems with my family.I am very unhappy now and I need help.

I think my parents don’t understand me.They don’t care what I like doing, but always talk about how I should study. They don’t let me go out with my friends at weekends. They always ask and even order me to stay at home and study.I’m sure I could still study very well even if I had more time to play, but they just don’t listen to me.We often argue with(與...爭論)each other.

I really hope that my parents can become my friends. What shall I do? How can I let them know this? Please give me some advice.Thank you!

          Yours

          Mary

          Dear John,
Thank you very much for your letter. I am glad that you enjoyed your holiday with me. We enjoyed having
you and your sister here. We hope that you will both be able to come again next year. Perhaps you'll be able
to stay longer next time. A week is not really long enough, is it? If your school has five weeks' holiday next
year, perhaps you will be able to stay with us for two or three weeks.
We have been back at school three weeks now. It feels like three months! I expect that you are both
working very hard now because you are in Grade Two now. Tom and Ann won't be in Grade Two until
2007. They went for a picnic yesterday but I didn't go with them, because I hurt my foot and I couldn't walk
very well. They went to an island and enjoyed themselves there.
Tom, Ann and I send our best wishes to you. We hope to see you soon.

If you don't keep yourself warm enough, winter can be a time of illness.
During the winter months, people easily get colds and flu (流感). Many think they are the same, but
          these two illnesses are different.
Colds can stay with you for up to a week. You will have a running nose, sore throat, headache, cough
          and a fever.
Flu is more serious. You will feel sick very quickly. You will have a fever and a headache. Your body
will hurt and become weak. This could last for up to four weeks.
Is there any way to keep yourself away from colds and flu? Staying clear of people with colds or flu
          may work.
Try not to touch (觸摸) your nose or eyes if you have been close to someone who has a cold. Wash
your hands, especially after cleaning your nose.
Going out with wet hair can also give you a cold!
If you catch a cold or flu, go to bed and rest. Doing this will help you get better. Drink lots of water.
Stay in a warm, well-aired room. If you have a headache, or your muscles hurt, take some medicine.

down and ____ for a few days. He said I would get well in a week. Okay, so much for now.
Take good care of yourselves, too.

Applying (申請) to colleges in America
One of a high school student's most important tasks is to get into college. Applying to colleges usually
begins in a student's last year at high school, but preparations bgein much earlier.
Each high school has at least one special college counselor (顧問) to help students apply to colleges.
In public schools, there are about five hundred to a thousand students who have a counselor, but in private
schools, there are usually no more than forty students to every counselor.
Starting in ninth grade, students have to work hard to get good grades. Colleges lookat all the student's
high school grades, so they are very important. Sometimes, a student can be rejected (拒絕) by a college
just because of poor grades a few years ago.
In eleventh grade, students begin to take many national tests. Most tests happen a few times a year, and
students can take them as many times as thay want. Colleges only ask for scores from the SAT test
(學(xué)業(yè)水平測試), which have three subjects-math, reading and writing. However, many students choose
to take other tests as well. These other tests help to show colleges how good a student is.
In class, students try to behave well for the teachers. Most colleges ask students to have two
recommendation letters (推薦信) from two teachers. Because of this, it is important for students to have
          teachers who like them.
Besides work in the classroom, colleges also think about what the student does outside of school. Students
can join the school and, or write for the school newspaper. Others play on school sports teams. There are
many things for everyone to do, and colleges think it is important to accept students who do things other than
          school work.
After working for so many years, students sendapplication to colleges in the middle of their last year of
high school. A few months later, colleges mail their decisions out.
          根據(jù)文章內(nèi)容,判斷下列句子正(A)誤(B)。
(     )1. In public schools, about forty students have a counselor.
(     )2. Students can join the school band, or write for the school newspaper.
